Commemorative tablet  unveiled  at  Sohbar , Oct 20 th , 2012

Shri.Vincent  Pala, M.P Meghalaya  and Union Minister of  State  for Water Resources  unveiled  the tablet  in commemoration of the three Sirdars , U Mit Sirdar Sohbar,U Hon ,Sirdar Nongrum  u  Dur Sirdar Nongskong and Wamlanem , captain  who were patriots  and freedom  fighters  who  fought  bravely  in the  Anglo-Khasi War of 1829 East India Company  of  Britain within  the  premises  of  Durbar   Hall  of Ilaka  Sohbar  on  Saturday last in the presence of Shri.C.V.D.Diengdoh, IAS, S.D.O.(C ), Sohra Civil Sub-Division.


Speaking  on  the  occasion , Mr.Pala   said  that  the  day  is  a  Red  Letter  Day  in  the Ilaka  of  Sohbar   where  the  three  Sirdars  were   remembered  and  respected  for   their  heroic  deeds .”only  Patriots  and  freedom  Fighters  were  remembered  and  shown  respect  to  this  day”,he  asserted. He  appreciated  with  deep  respect  for  the  act  of  valour  and  the  valiant  sacrifices  that  they  rendered  for  the  love  of  their  motherland. He laid  great  stress  upon  Co-operation  and  mutual understanding without which nothing can  be achieved. He urged  upon  people to cooperate with the government in the development of the state. He also assured  that  he  would give  Rs 5 lacs  for  the  crematorium, Rs 2 lacs  for renovation and extension of the community  hall  and Rs 2 lacs  for Extension of the School building. He  also assured  that  he would look  thoroughly into their demands.


A  memorandum  was also presented to him on this day.Cultural programmes  were  the other  highlight  of  the day.


Shri.Cyril V.D.Diengdoh, IAS, S.D.O (C ), Sohra Civil Sub-Division , Shri. K.S.lyngskor, Sirdar, Ilaka  Sohbar  and Shri.Kynsai Tangdhara  also  spoke on the occasion.

 

Shri.P.Japang, matabor, Sohbar Ilaka  chaired  the occasion. Earlier Shri.K.S.Lyngskor, Sirdar  Sohbar  delivered  the welcome  address  while  Shri.W.Syiemlieh  offered  the  vote of  thanks.
